Honors Project: Humanity Surrendered (Poem)
Honors Course: Honors U.S. History from 1877
Instructor: Wendy Adele-Marie
My name is Charlie Lauritson. I joined the Honors Program in Spring 2026. My professors have all been excellent. Any trepidation I had in returning to college after a multi-year hiatus was quickly eased and erased by the genuine kindness and support I received from all of my professors. I would encourage everyone afforded the opportunity to join Oakton’s Honors Program — your growth as a student and individual will be significant. My plan is to finish my Associate’s Degree at Oakton by Fall 2026 and transfer to a university to major in English Literature.
My project was for Dr. Adele-Marie’s U.S. History from 1877 course with a focus on an event which occurred between roughly the Great Depression and the conclusion of World War II. Dr. Adele-Marie was gracious enough to allow me to write a poem on the Holocaust, and her continued assistance and encouragement proved invaluable in this process.
