Personal Statement Workshop with Northwestern University: 2:00PM-3:30PM 3/27 (Zoom)

Do you plan to transfer to a 4-year college or university? Most require you to submit one or more essays—also called personal statements—about what makes you who you are.

In this workshop, you will learn from Oakton Learning Center Writing Tutor Karleen McAllester about what the personal statement is and why it’s important for transferring to your next college, review essay prompts appearing on the Common Application or Coalition Application, and hear from Oakton alumnus, Northwestern University graduate and Alumni Relations staff member Nathaniel Hall, who successfully made the transfer from community college to Northwestern, as well as Oakton Professors Tom Bowen and Megan Klein, two past Coordinators of the Honors Program who have helped many Oakton students transfer successfully. They will share sample essays, talk about experiences writing and helping students write transfer essays, and provide advice to help you. You will leave with resources to help your start writing, revise, or put the finishing touches on your transfer essays.

Register here to attend via Zoom, on March 27, 2:00PM-3:30PM
